When you can acknowledge how powerful you are, you will finally have power over your life. When you are feeling powerless, it is because you have lost sight of your power, you have given away to others, or you lack the confidence to embrace your own strength and capacity. If you are feeling powerless in your life and want to change that, then keep reading.
Steps to Regaining Power in Your Life
Step 1. Realize that You Matter
One of the reasons we give away power in our lives to others or “fate” is because we do not think that our opinions or dreams count. But if those things do not matter in your life, then how do they matter at all? Your beliefs, feelings, and opinions should be the most critical thing in your life, and when you start vocalizing these and standing up for yourself, you will begin to feel more powerful over your destiny.
Learning to speak up to others is one way to sever the destructive and toxic relationships that have been robbing you of your personal power. Speaking your truth allows others to know how you deserve and expect to be treated, which is how they learn to have a healthy relationship with you.
Step 2. Know Yourself
Getting to know which parts of your life are working and which are not bringing you any joy or satisfaction can help you get back some of the control you have lost in the past. Take some time to really ponder just how well things are going in all areas of your life. How satisfying is your job?
Are your finances where you want them to be? What about the relationships you have in your life?
Break down all aspects from health to hobbies, from how you spend your time to how you relax. This is your current status, but it does not have to represent your future unless you want it to.
Step 3. Make a Plan
Now that you know the areas of your life that aren’t bringing you joy or fulfillment, you can plan for how you would like to change that.
Where do you want to be in a year? Five years?
To gain back your power and start having control over your life, you need to create a plan for how you would like to reach these goals, including the individual steps and milestones it will take to get you there.
Having a plan makes you feel in control of what is ahead, and it gives you something toward which to look forward. It also helps you strategize ways to overcome obstacles and fend off potential problems, which can help you feel more in control, as well.
Step 4. Stay Positive
The obstacles that you will meet on your path to your dreams do not define your life. Your response to those outcomes is what tells you and the world whether you are powerful or powerless.
When life hands you challenges, it is essential to focus on the positive, look at what you can learn from this feedback, and use that lesson to propel yourself forward. Learning to control your responses to failures and setbacks is a considerable part of regaining your personal power, and the more you practice this, the easier it will become.
There are many small things that you can do every single day to start reclaiming your power and take back control of your life. But the only person in this world who can make you feel powerless is you. You have the innate ability to control your life, and it is up to you to decide if you want to embrace that power or live a life of helplessness.
